Lisa Zane

International folk classicism, individualistic pop songwriting, and the soul of a chanteuse.

Lisa Zane is an American singer with an eclectic, intercultural repertoire, unique on the music scene. Her act has a 21^st century dimension in its swift blend of cultures and musical traditions, with a worldliness that speaks to a mature audience and that intrigues a youthful one. Greek art songs, Mexican habaneras, French chansons, and other romantic folk traditions, stand side by side with her original material rooted in rock, folk and jazz that tell urban tales of contemporary life. As a performer, Ms. Zane inhabits the atmosphere of an ever-widening reach of material, while retaining the intimacy of soul that the repertoire demands. On large festival stages, in nightclubs or in bars, the music and the singer are at home all over the world.

A Little Background

Ms. Zane has been a performing artist since her school days and enjoyed an early career as a stage and screen actress. Audiences know her from the noir thriller Bad Influence, the horror cult classic Freddy's Dead:The Final Nightmare, and from her series work in ER, Profit and Roar, among many other TV and movie roles throughout the 90’s.

In 1998 Lisa began giving weekly concerts at Les Deux Cafes in Hollywood, growing her distinct repertoire over the course of six months. By the turn of the century, she was living in New York City, performing regularly at Joe’s Pub and The Cutting Room, and beginning to compose her first songs.

She released her self titled debut record in 2005 produced with flamenco guitarist Hernan Romero, and from it, her song ‘Day Bed’ made it onto the Songwriter's Hall of Fame New Songwriter's CD of 2006. That same year, Lisa moved to Paris, the fertile ground she called home for the next five years, where she continued to write and perform.

Over the years, Lisa has played numerous bars and nightclubs, both popular and obscure, in Europe and the US. Concurrently she's been invited to perform at the Musica D’Elba Jazz Festival in Italy, backed by the The Igor Butman Quartet, The Ravinia Music Festival in Chicago, the Festival Ortiz Tirado in Sonora Mexico, as well as many exotic private events on the same bill with artists ranging from Placido Domingo to Grace Jones.

As a songwriter (BMI), Lisa has written and composed for film and TV: Charmed (‘Everything’s Kind of Good’), and I Woke up Early the Day I Died (‘Bink e Bink’), ); and as a singer in feature films: Monkeybone (Love is the Drug), Missing Pieces (‘La Llorona’) in which she starred opposite James Coburn, The Girl from Nagasaki (‘Hello Lover’), and Coriolanus (Sta Pervolia).

Ms Zane created an original stage play, Bars: The Girl on the Piano, an ongoing project about the history of saloon singing, a subject dear to her heart. It premiered in her hometown of Chicago.
